This may be hard to do, but I suggest you write him a letter and in it apologise for ending the relationship. Say you acted on impulse because he wasn’t coming to see you so often, and that you’d like to meet up with him. Suggest a time and place, but leave it open for him to amend the details if he can’t make it there and then.

Don’t be afraid of swallowing your pride. What do you want more – to be proud and lonely, or only slightly less proud and back with your ex?
