I think so. If you aren’t friends with her now, you don’t know if you REALLY want to be with her again.
It is possible that one/both of you has changed in that time. Perhaps how you remember your old relationship is different to how it actually was.
Becoming friends is a good way to make sure that a relationship with her is what you really want and will also let her know that you actually care.

my boyfriend has been touring with brooks and dunn so we broke up just so he wouldnt have that hanging over his head and he surprised me one night when i came home, him and his band starting playing the song we wrote together because he missed me and asked me to come on tour with him. it was very romantic. he loves me and i could just tell so try something that you know is extremely special to her and be creative
